Paramount Ranch Rally

Friday, May 24th

Randy Newman came up with one of the best comments about LA: "We was born to ride." The landscape seems familiar even if you've never visited our city. Practically every square inch has been featured in some film, TV show or song. Our Fun Rally will cruise past "Dead Man's Curve" on Sunset Blvd., then slip down to PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) for a drive along the ocean. On your left see the Malibu Pier and imagine the lifeguards of "Baywatch" jogging along the sand in slow motion. "Roll down the window, put down the top. Crank up the Beach Boys baby. Don't let the music stop."

After cruising the coast, turn into the oak and chaparral covered foothills for a exhilarating drive through "back country" LA. We will motor along famous Mulholland Highway to our destination, Paramount Ranch. The site contains a western movie set, an abandoned sports car racetrack and lunch. John von Neumann's 750 Monza raced to a first place finish here on August 19, 1956. Park your car and explore this fascinating piece of motion picture and sports racing history. When you're ready, return to Century City by a different route with more lovely canyons and coastline. Another line from Randy Newman's song comes to mind:

"From the South Bay to the Valley,
from the West side to the East side
Everybody's very happy,
'Cause the sun is shining all the time.
Looks like another perfect day.
We love LA!" Lyrics Randy Newman
